Contemplating Roads Less Traveled, by Kevin Hunt
Smooth Pavement Ahead?
Admittedly, at the heart of The Road Ahead is a
thesis we're all sympathetic with, one that is admirable and
worth pursuing. It's
democratic.
Bill imagines a world in which technology fosters collaboration,
cooperation, and connectivity. This is a lofty goal. The problem
is that, rather than contemplating the myriad of information
needs and problems that exist in the world today, then exploring
the role that computers and technology can play in providing for
these needs and in solving these problems, Bill seems content to
take a different tack: he offers technological solutions in
search of markets. Moreover, the solutions he discusses mostly
boil down to
increased
efficiency.
