One purpose of this audience statement is to define the target audience for CMC Magazine. Another purpose for this statement of audience is to give guidance to prospective authors (who should also see: the style guidelines, the submission guidelines, the editorial policy, and the identity statement for the magazine).
The audience for CMC Magazine is:
- Multidisciplinary (communication, rhetoric, composition, journalism, computer science, information science, political science, cultural studies, etc., etc.);
- Net-savvy: know how to read a Web-based magazine;
- CMC-savvy: basics of technology, familiarity with theory and resources;
- Share a desire for new ideas, fresh perspectives, the impact of research and the implications of CMC issues.
What the audience shares:
- An interest in CMC studies, descriptions of explorations of theoretical approaches, experiences of CMC, or new technologies
- A base of knowledge that may vary widely, but includes a common set of terms for network technologies and resources. An example set of what this common resource knowledge entails is on the Resources page of the CMC Studies Center. While not a perfect reflection of all audience members' knowledge, this page is associated with the magazine itself and therefore a common area for readers to obtain knowledge and a common base of information writers can assume readers have.
