Technical View of the Web

The Web is a system for client/server communication on the Internet. The World Wide Web is a hypermedia information and communication system popularly used on the Internet computer network with data communications operating according to a client/server model. Web clients (browsers) can access multiprotocol and hypermedia information from servers (possibly using helper applications in conjunction with the browser) by way of an addressing scheme.
